Leaving on a Jet Plane

Friday, June 1, 2018: On to my next adventure, I left Seattle Thursday afternoon around 4:00. I am heading to the Washington DC/Virginia area for my nephew’s wedding. My mom was supposed to be coming along for the first part of this adventure, but two weeks ago she started having some major back pain issues and decided she better not attempt the trip. Too bad as I am sure she would have enjoyed seeing my brother, Bill, and meet his new wife, as well as attend Mike and Alli’s wedding. My niece, Christine, will be here too.

The flight was fairly uneventful if bumpy. Lots of thunderstorms all the way so we remained seated almost the whole flight. Arrived at Dulles at about midnight and went to get my checked bag. After watching for it for 40 minutes it finally showed up. I went outside and was immediately hit with humidity and started sweating. It took a while for the rental car bus to show up and I stood there with steaming glasses and streaming face.

I got my rental and plugged in the hotel and took off. Since I knew I would be getting in very late I had looked for a hotel close to Dulles that had a shuttle so we wouldn’t have to deal with a rental car at that point and just get to the hotel. Well, when mom decided not to come, I decided I would just go ahead and get the car upon arrival.

I also was originally going to only spend one night here and then move to a hotel at Frederick, MD where my brother lives. However, as you might recall, I won’t stay at Hilton properties any more after the spring training debacle, plus my mom was supposed to fly out of Dulles on Tuesday at 6:00 AM so I decided to stay in the same hotel the whole time. A Courtyard by Marriott Dulles Town Center.

Well, I plugged Courtyard Dulles into Google maps and took off. When I got to the hotel they couldn’t find my reservation. I showed them the confirmation and the woman kept trying different ways but, no luck. It was after 1:00 AM at this point and I was getting a little anxious. Another person came up and asked to see my confirmation and realized I was at wrong Courtyard. Who knew there were two in Dulles? So, off I went back in the opposite direction and finally arrived.

After checking in, I went up the elevator and turned into the hallway and saw someone sitting in a chair a ways down the hall holding her hands up in front of her like she was holding a gun. My heart stopped. I backed up a little. Then looked again and thought it looked like she was wearing a uniform of some kind so moved towards her. It was a night security person looking at her phone. She never looked up or said anything. Made me wonder why they would need a security guard in the hallway. Hmmm. Will have to ask about that.

Finally got to sleep sometime after 3:30 and didn’t get up until 10:00. Saw the weather and it is supposed to be 86 degrees and rainy. Oh, fun! Good thing I like my hair curly.

I am going to head to my brother’s house in a little bit and meet his wife and hang out there for a while. The rehearsal is tonight and then the dinner is in Frederick, which I will attend. The wedding is tomorrow.

I leave here next Wednesday and head to Europe for a East Mediterranean cruise, so will have more to come. In the meantime, wedding updates and sight seeing are in the forecast along with rain.
