A Year Ago… GO HAWKS!

It was this Tuesday one year ago that we found out that Darrel had pancreatic cancer. It has been a rollercoaster year of ups and downs. I remember so well the gut-wrenching feeling when Dr. Feldman came in the room and told us.

Then the horrible time calling friends and family to tell them. Many of the friends were out of town for their winter vacations as they are again this week.

This year, I might be going down to Phoenix to see a couple of them and also absorb some of the Seahawks excitement. Depends on whether I can catch a flight somewhere in California or Las Vegas on standby. Then will drive to meet them.

The flights aren’t looking too good since many other people have the same thing in mind, but, we shall see. Going to try tomorrow since the flights seem to be a bit better than Thursday.

GO HAWKS!

I remember the call. You are amazing. We will toast you and Darrel tonight. Garry is calling every truck driver Butt Head. There are so many on these main interstates. Makes driving interesting! Hugs…. M

The bitter and the sweet, right? Please try to get a flight and holler real loudly for me also. Hope you see Mar and Gar if you go.

Robin, I remember where we were when I got the call & was told Darrel had cancer. We were on the north CA. coast. Got a quick call from Kellie. Then lost her due to bad reception. We kept driving, hoping to get cell reception. Finally, at 9:30pm, I said we need to get off at the next town & get a room. I couldn’t sit one more moment in the car. I can’t remember the name of the town, but as we drove into it, the cell phone rang & it was Kellie. All I can remember is being in shock when Kellie told us you had been trying to get a hold of us & why. Definitely not a good day. I still think about Darrel & his garden, bees & fishing like he’s still here, and have to remind myself he’s not. I will always remember the good times in Mexico with you guys & the wonderful Christmas’s we all spent together. Thank you.

If you do get to Phoenix & can swing it, please think about coming to Palm Desert to stay with us for a few days. Love you.
